Dr. Keerthy Sunder, Medical Director /Founder
Dr. Sunder has devoted his life to helping others build peace, joy, fulfillment and peak performance on the foundation of physical and mental health. With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Keerthy Sunder, M.D. holds Diplomates from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, American Board of Addiction Medicine and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, London. Born in India, his idyllic early childhood in the beautiful Buddhist Kingdom of Bhutan had a profound influence on his philosophy and career path, including his deep desire to integrate the mind, body, and soul in all of his endeavors.
Dr. Sunder is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a Member of the American Academy of Anti- Aging Medicine, a Board Member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), San Jacinto, and an Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Addiction Therapy and Research. He is also a Dream Builder Member of the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM), a member of the credentialing committee for the American Board of Addiction Medicine and a Credentialed Menopause Practitioner.
Also serving as a speaker at national and international conferences, Dr. Sunder has presented at the Marce Society of Psychiatric Disorders of Childbirth Conference in Oxford, England, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Annual Convention in Anaheim, California. His work has been published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, and most recently, the Journal of Addiction Therapy and Research.
Dr. Keerthy Sunder, MD is an accomplished Physician with extensive experience as a clinician, researcher, administrator, teacher, lecturer and writer for peer-reviewed journals and professional book chapters.
Dr. Keerthy has earned Diplomates from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Buffalo Grove, Ill., the American Board of Addiction Medicine in Chevy Chase, Md., and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in London, England. He has also been certified as a Credentialed Menopause Practitioner by the North American Menopause Society, and is currently licensed by the Medical Boards of California, Arizona, Pennsylvania, New York and England. He served his Ob/Gyn residency at James Cook University Hospital in England. He served his Psychiatry residency at the University of Bristol, England as well as Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic at the University Of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania. He has obtained extensive training in the practice of mind body medicine and integrative approaches towards health and wellness.
Dr. Sunder was nominated as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and was invited to join the Editorial Team of the prestigious Journal of Addiction Therapy and Research. He is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor at University of California Riverside’s School of Medicine and is on Clinical Faculty at Southern California University of Health Science. He additionally is a Member of the Credentialing Committee for the American Board of Addiction Medicine and a member of the American College of Nutrition. He is also a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the North American Menopause Society, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the Academy of Physicians in Clinical Research, the International Society for CNS Clinical Trials and Methodology, The International Association of Trauma Professionals and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.
Dr. Sunder’s previous positions have included stints as an Attending physician and Clinical Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh, Pa., Magee Women’s Hospital, Pittsburgh and Staff Psychiatrist at the Bethlem and Maudsley Hospital, Institute of Psychiatry, in London, England.
Dr. Sunder currently serves as Chief Medical Officer for the Mind & Body Treatment and Research Institute in California and Principal Scientific Investigator for an FDA Study on Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in returning War Veterans. He has worked on over 30 Research Protocols focused on Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, and Substance Use Disorders, as well as studies related to Pregnancy and Postpartum disorders. His work has been published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, and most recently, the Journal of Addiction Therapy and Research. His latest publication raises awareness of the importance of Mindfulness Meditation in building Resilience in the throes of Addictions and PTSD (Link). He has additionally published an elaborate examination of The Progression of Neurofeedback: An Evolving Paradigm in Addiction Treatment and Relapse Prevention (Link).
